Local Schools Receive $34,000 in State Grants, Marshall Says
1/28/2020
HARRISBURG – Rep. Jim Marshall (R-Beaver/Butler) announced numerous local schools were awarded state grants totaling nearly $34,000 from the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE).

“Our students can focus on learning much better when they’re not distracted by hunger. That’s why it’s important for schools to have the equipment they need to prepare balanced meals for the kids,” Marshall said.

Freedom Area Middle School received $7,150 for an electric convection oven. New Brighton Middle School received $24,144 for a gas tilting kettle. Rochester Area High School received $2,689 for a milk cooler.

Funding for the grants is made available through the U.S. Department of Agriculture and is awarded to schools which participate in the National School Lunch Program and have 50% more of students eligible for free or reduced-price meals.

More than $925,000 in competitive grants was awarded to 72 elementary, middle and high schools across the state for the purchase of new food service equipment for cafeterias.
