Marshall Announces $34,000 in Grants to Benefit Two Area Libraries
HARRISBURG– Rep. Jim Marshall (R-Beaver/Butler) announced today that two Keystone grants totaling $33,756, funded through the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund, were approved to benefit the 14th District.
“Libraries are recreational and educational resources, meeting spots and places to go to apply for jobs online for adults who don’t own a computer or have an internet connection. It’s critical that we maintain these community hubs,” Marshall said.
The first grant, in the amount of $27,256, will enable Evans City Public Library to repair and upgrade outdoor lighting to LED, repoint 25 percent of exterior bricks and repair windows.
The second grant provides $6,500 to Zelienople Area Public Library to upgrade carpeting on the lower level in the children’s librarian office, hall, staff breakroom and storage room.
The Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund was established by an act of the General Assembly in 1993. The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), through the Office of Commonwealth Libraries, Bureau of Library Development, administers the public library portion of this program, which is funded from a portion of realty transfer taxes.
